My Highpoint Fall Market Recap: Klismos, Boucle and Artisanal Accents
By Diana Mosher
High Point Market can feel daunting even if it’s not the first time. One of the benefits of ASID NY Metro membership is the opportunity to tour High Point Market as a group. In October ASID NY Metro Chapter President Katharine Posillico McGowan led us on private showroom visits with Theodore Alexander, Leftbank Art, Bernhardt, Lily Koo, Currey & Co., Wesley Hall, Century, Vanguard, Phillips Collection, Swaim and Made Goods. At the Swaim factory we saw their manufacturing process up close and we also ran into Charles Pavarini III whose first collection with Swaim debuted in 2018.
Klismos chair fans will be happy to know there are many new interpretations of this classic. We also saw lots of boucle upholstery on sofas, lounge chairs and ottomans. Furniture forms ranged from very slender and delicate to extremely organic and chunky—one of the designers on our tour described it as Flintstones furniture. We also saw many versions of tiered pendant lighting and lots of products riding the artisanal wave.
